African Generator Company (Pty) Ltd, (“AGC”) was incorporated in 2006, its headquarters are based in Cape Town South Africa. AGC operates in the Sub Saharans region with the main office in Cape Town, representative offices in Ghana and Kenya. Sales, distribution and servicing is facilitated through an ever expanding network of dealer. It has served Ivory Coast and Senegal.
AGC is part of a Dutch Trading House, based in the Netherlands, which has been involved with power generation in Africa at large for over 25 years. All generators manufactured at AGC are produced, marketed and distributed under the brand name GENLINE, a registered trade mark.
AGC specialization designs, produces and installs even large diesel power plants of 25MW, transformers, and switchboards etc. Projects like this can be taken on an EPC base (Engineering, Procurement Commissioning). The company also sells heavy mining equipment like sag – and ball mills, crusher and apron feeders.
The diesel generator engine is very popular because of high durability and low cost and could overtake traditional petrol power source bases, according to General Manager, African Generator Company. More sophisticated motor and fuel management systems being launched could increase fuel efficiency.
AGC handles brands from Yanmar, Japan (5kVA – 25kVA); Cummins, China (25kVA – 1000 kVA); Mitsubishi, Japan (750kVA-2000 kVA) and MTU, Daimler Benz – Germany (1250kVA – 3000 kVA). The latter two are used in synchronization to build an output power of 5 to 20MW.
Diesel Generators sold by AGC are designed to cope very with African harsh conditions. Recently, the company was involved in manufacturing 5 and 12 MW diesel power plants in Ivory Coast. Technology can be used to customize generators for certain purpose, for instance use of filter technology in cement manufacturing.
“Buyers of generators should not only look to the pricing of the generator as such but should also take a very serious look at the lifespan of diesel engines fuel efficiency and fuel cost.” Timmerman advises buyers of large generators and power plants
In view of fuel efficiency, emission control and durability, he adds that European models prove to be better than the American and Japanese models. Fuel efficiency is a top priority for those purchasing diesel generators to serve as primary power.
