Bergey Windpower is the oldest and most experienced manufacturer of residential-sized wind turbines in the world. They have been manufacturing small, horizontal axis wind turbines for 35 years. This include 1 kW (8.2′ rotor diameter), 6 kW (20.2′ rotor diameter), 7.5 kW (22′ rotor diameter) and 10 kW (23′ rotor diameter) wind turbines for homes, farms, and small businesses and they require no scheduled maintenance, only regular inspections that are outlined in the turbine owner’s manuals.

They recommend installing their turbines on towers at least 60′ in height at least 30′ above any obstructions within a 300′ radius, so that the turbine can operate most efficiently and have access to a non-turbulent wind resource, and for this reason they recommend a property size of at least one acre, this is related to the cubic relationship between wind velocity and kinetic energy. (I.e. Small increases in average wind speed gained from taller towers results in large differences in energy output.) Roof-mounted turbines are very loud and cause excessive vibrations which can unbalance the rotor and drastically reduce the turbine’s performance.

With only three pioneer radically moving parts and no scheduled maintenance necessary, the Bergey Excel 10 is ideal for homes, farms, and small businesses and has compiled a service record that no other wind turbine can match, with a back up of the longest warranty in the industry. It was one of the first small wind turbines to receive certification from the Small Wind Certification Council (SWCC), followed by their Excel 6 with similar applications.

They also offer Guyed-Lattice, Self-Supporting Lattice, Tubular Self-Supporting, and Guyed Tilt-up Lattice towers in heights from 60 ft to 160 ft. Their turbines are simple and incorporate sophisticated technology that has been refined over more than a quarter-century. Their turbines are exceptional low wind speed performance, robust storm protection, and almost silent operation. Their turbines have proven to be the biggest investment and the wise choice for Performance, Reliability, and Ruggedness.

They have recently participated in the Green Build Expo in Philadelphia and the Renewable Energy World Expo in Tokyo. They are currently looking for dealers in Africa.
