Celebrating 15 Years of Excellence
FBW Group, a British-based design, architecture and engineering-led multi-disciplinary consultancy, celebrated its 15 year Ugandan anniversary at the British High Commission in Kampala. Established in the UK in 1995, the company first started operations in Tanzania with the aim of providing professional building services throughout East Africa.
The Group has since made its mark in the East African region and now plans to extend its services tothe wider African continent. With their East African base established in Kampala, this UK-based company has operations centres in the Netherlands, Rwanda and Tanzania and has spread its wings to expand services throughout Eastern Africa over the last 15 years.
The company offers a wide range of in-house professional building and technical services, including pre-design services, development consultancy, building appraisals and condition surveys, project management, architecture, civil and structural engineering, MEP engineering, telecommunication engineering, and other building consultancy services.
FBW has a respected reputation for delivering impressive, responsive and high-value construction projects to international standards. Their international background and experience gained by operating in a multicultural environment allows FBW to provide services in a number of African and European languages which include English, German, French, Dutch, Swedish, Italian, Spanish, Irish, Danish, Luganda and Swahili.

Under the directorship of Paul Moores- a registered architect in both Uganda and the UK and a founding director of FBW Uganda since 1998-the Group has completed a number of prestigious projects ranging from health centers, hotels, and educational centers to residential, retail and mixed-use office developments. Their expertise and vast experience in robust, reliable and compliant design and project delivery, has been employed on their many construction projects in various East African cities.
Amongst these in Uganda are the British High Commission, a new urban center in Kingdom Kampala’s 120,000m2 mixed-use retail, leisure, hotel and office development currently under construction, new showrooms and offices for Motorcare Uganda, Kampala International School Uganda, Hamu Mukasa Library at UCU, Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, Ambrosoli International School, the Emin Pasha Hotel, Lake Victoria Hotel, the Ndere Centre, Virika Hospital, Hospice Africa and several high profile commercial office towers in the city.
The British High Commission in Kampala, where the event to commemorate their 15 year anniversary in Uganda was held, was completed in 2006 in association with Cullum & Nightingale architects from London. The building won the prestigious RIBA 2008 International Award and was shortlisted for the 2008 Lubetkin Prize.
In Tanzania, Mara Oysterbay City, a 300,000m2 mixed-use development encompassing retail, housing, offices and hotels, will change the face of Dar es Salaam. Other notable projects include Ras Kutani and Mtoni Marine resorts, Msasani Slipway retail mall, and the development of Turiani and Mtinko hospitals.
In Rwanda, Downtown Kigali, a 90,000m2 mixed-use retail, commercial and transport hub is currently under construction. Projects such as new commercial offices for Prime Excellent, anew signature library building for the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology, and the refurbishment of the Umubano Hotel are among other FBW accomplishments.
In addition, FBW has completed various engineering works for UMEME, Century Bottling Company (Coca Cola), Celtel, Bralima Breweries for Heineken, the Tanzania Cigarette Company, Skol Brewery and others.
The FBW group is known for providing international expertise and local knowledge in Uganda and throughout the wider Eastern Africa region. As a demonstration of its continuing commitment to providing a region-wide presence to its clients, the company expects to soon establish offices in Kenya, with the aim of extending their footprint as leading providers of professional building services within the region.
FBW Group and its senior professional personnel are registered with a number of associations including the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Architects Registration Board UK and Uganda, Institute of Structural Engineers UK, Uganda Society of Architects (USA), Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers (UIPE), Uganda Engineers Registration Board (ERB), Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK),Tanzanian Engineers Registration Board (TERB), Architektenregister, Netherlands, Charted Institute of Building Service Engineers(CIBSE) and the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) UK amongst others.
