Founded in 1986, Kanyue & Partners Architects, is an architectural design firm consisting of professionals who specialize in full service project development. The firm’s principal Arch. Patrick E. Kanyue has a strong background in design, and supervision of highly visible projects.
With experience in the design of custom residential, commercial, and industrial buildings the company offers a balanced design approach that respects project economics, functional use of space and flexibility for future needs. Confirming this, Arch. Kanyue says, “I have always endeavored to design buildings which are as free as possible from maintenance of external facades by usage of locally available natural construction materials. Moreover, I am sensitive to the climate and other environmental conditions that affect the human habitat and I always address these in my designs”.
The firm operates under the principle of providing innovative solutions to complex problems. The company’s approach seeks to align the commercial insights of their clients with creative expression through a collaborative and interactive relationship. “I am an interpreter of clients’ visions and desires on the human habitat. These differ from one client to another and I believe that I am an effective graphical communicator which is reflected in my interpretations of my clientele’s desires. I have personally supervised the construction of each building that I have designed since 1986. I never delegate that role and this has enabled Kanyue & Partners Architects to remain apt in this competitive field.
Arch. Kanyue has 46 years of experience in this field; 15 years serving the Government of Kenya 10 of which were in senior positions and 31years to date as a sole proprietorship. In that regard Kanyue & Partners Architects has the capacity, expertise and experience to successfully undertake projects of any size or complexity.
According to Arch. Kanyue, bad aping of technologies which are inappropriate for the tropics are big challenge in the industry; for instance, glass claddings when carelessly handled normally create glare and ‘green house effects’.
As he explains the market is currently influenced greatly by imported technologies particularly from China and Far East. I blame our Architects for their “Failure to encourage creative use of traditional construction methods and detailing; yet we have lived with some of these methods for several decades. This has made society to accept imported methods of construction without question particularly in housing developments. Furthermore, Kenya is endowed with a lot of clay and friendly soils. These have yet to be exploited. He therefore, encourages other players in this field to innovate cheaper construction methods and construction techniques.
Kanyue & Partners Architects undertake feasibility studies, layouts of roads and sewers, development studies, garden and landscape design, design of furniture and fittings, interior design; with offices in Nairobi, APA Insurance Arcade Building Argwings Kodhek Road.
The firm intends to relocate to Adams Apple Building, Ngong Road in the New Year.
