arch concepts goingArch Concepts Limited is an architectural practice in Kenya founded in 2002 by its current Managing Partner, Arch J.T. Okinda.

The firm, registered with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (Boraqs) and a member of the Architectural Association of Kenya  (AAK), currently consists of four architects, three technicians, administrative and support staff.

Arch Concepts Ltd provides architectural, project management and interior design services.  The services are spread across the entire construction spectrum, meaning that the consultancy can undertake commercial, residential and institutional projects.

The decade old firm has quickly created a favourable impression in the industry due to its excellent relationship with clients, quality of work and timely delivery of projects. This is particularly important in the face of growing concerns that some professional firms in the country are accessories in the rising cases of structurally unsound building structures.

Arch Concepts is based on a solid foundation with sound business principles. The firm realizes that growth requires dynamism and focus.

Consequently, it keeps a close eye on changing trends in architecture and interior design as well as the constantly evolving tastes and preferences of customers.

Project: Nyamira Police Headquarters
Price: US$1.8m
Year Built: 2009

The Kenya government, through the Ministry of Public Works, decided to embark on the completion of all stalled government projects. Most of these projects were started in late 1980s and early 90s. The project at Nyamira Divisional Police headquarters entailed the construction of offices, MT Workshops, community center, dogs section and police accommodation that included type `E` flats, type `D` Flats and type `C` bungalows.

Two stations were selected for the implementation of the projects. One station at Nyamira had four sites and the other station at Keroka had one site. All the projects were started but stalled at different levels of completion. Through open tender advertised in late 2006 for consultancy services, the government selected Arch Concepts to be the lead consultant for the completion of the works. The firm prepared all relevant documents which were then forwarded to the Ministry of Public Works to obtain tenders for the main contractor and subcontractors.

However, with the budget allocated for the project, it was impossible to document the entire project, so a decision was made to phase the project into two and concentrate on the completion of Phase 1.
