Middleton Survey and Laser Instruments is an established and successful company dedicated to the servicing and repair of all makes of survey and laser equipment used for land survey, construction and industrial monitoring.  Based in Worthing, on the South Coast of England, we supply and support many local, national and international companies. We hope that you will have the confidence to work with us for all your survey equipment and training needs.

Colin Middleton, founder of the company, has spent 30 years manufacturing, servicing and repairing all types of survey and laser instruments used in the survey and construction industry.  Established in 2003, we supply products from all the major manufacturers and are dealers for the Sokkia and Topcon brands of equipment. He has been trained by Kern / Wild of Switzerland, Sokkia / Sokkisha of Japan and Europe and South Instruments of China.


Colin’s experience was gained manufacturing optical components, reticules and lenses for both domestic and military applications; graduating with qualifications in mechanical engineering and optical instrumentation.  Moving from a manufacturing to a servicing environment, he quickly became familiar with all type of optical instruments, binoculars, microscopes, levels and theodolites, spending several years undertaking all types of customer repair.


Colin joined Kern Swiss UK Limited.  This involved working and training at their factory in Switzerland where the principles of EDM and Optical Encoders were taught.  Upon returning to the UK. he worked on all types of Kern Wild instruments. Colin joined Sokkisha (Sokkia Ltd) in 1990, repairing all Sokkia survey and laser equipment before secondment to Japan for training at the Tokyo production plant. Technical training continued at Sokkia European Head Office in Amsterdam.

Colin set up the Sokkia UK service and support facility, taking responsibility for ensuring the company gained registration to the ISO9000 quality standard, helping both UK and European dealers with service, training and support and holding the posts of Service and UK Quality Manager.

Middleton Survey and Laser Instruments maintains full quality assurance to ISO9001 which requires our calibration facilities to be audited annually to ensure quality of service.  All servicing and repair is warranted and certificates of calibration are issued upon completion of each customer instrument.

Service and Repair

The company specializes in the repair, service and calibration of Sokkia Total Stations, Theodolites, Lasers & Levels and carry a large stock of new and used parts. We also service and calibrate most makes of instruments in our service facility. All our work at Middleton Survey & Laser Instruments, conforms in all respects to the manufacturer’s specifications, calibration procedures in accordance with national and international standards.

Survey and Setting Out Training

Middleton Survey &amp offer a comprehensive package of survey training courses on all aspects of “Land Surveying”, “Construction Setting Out” and “Industrial Alignment”. Alternatively, courses can be tailor-made to suit your specific needs using Sokkia, Topcon or Leica instruments, whether as an individual or a company.
