In order to purchase equipment, remodel, and expand, the Aguascalientes International Airport will invest US$6.2 million in 2023. The money being invested is part of the US$27 million that will be used throughout the course of the five years from 2020 to 2024.

The new international arrivals hall, which contains two new restroom cores for men and women, is being expanded by more than 750 square meters. This is part of the terminal’s upgrades, which are currently being carried out.

With the aim of enhancing processes and the traveling experience of passengers, more facilities to house people with disabilities, a new 40 meter long baggage claim belt, larger office spaces, as well as new authority spaces have all been added.

Other ongoing projects apart from the Aguascalientes International Airport upgrades

The remodeling of the Rescue and Firefighting Service (SSEI) structures, changes to the turning platforms for runways 18–36, as well as repairs to the commercial apron and hangar lanes, are also some of the other ongoing projects.

The commitment to improve connectivity and infrastructure was mentioned by engineer Alejandro Rojas Vieyra. He is the director of the Aguascalientes International Airport.

He stated that they recently operated the new International Arrivals and Baggage Claim Hall. This is in relation to the expansion along with the remodeling of the terminal.

According to him, a total of 10 destinations are said to be currently handled by the airport. It is said that six of these destinations are domestic (including two beach destinations). Additionally, there are also four international destinations operated by the airport.

Based on the recent statistics collected in August 2023, international passenger traffic rose by 25 percent. It is important to note this significant increase. Also, local passenger traffic in the country increased by 14 percent compared to the same month in 2022.

In May 2023, the National Tourism Quality Distinctive (DNCT) awarded the Aguascalientes International Airport (AGU) the Diamond level.
