The ongoing upgrade of the Amahoro Stadium multi-purpose stadium in the Gasabo district of
Kigali, Rwanda is near completion. With an initial capacity of 25,000, it is the largest stadium in
Rwanda which hosts football matches, concerts, and public events. The national football clubs
Armée Patriotique Rwandaise F.C. and Rayon Sports F.C. are the tenants. The venue is also
sometimes used by the national rugby team.
Rwanda’s latest sports project is the renovation of the Amahoro stadium; the country’s only
the national stadium is getting a facelift and an increase in capacity from a 25,000-seater to a 45,000-
seater.

UPGRADE COST OF THE AMAHORO STADIUM
The upgrade project will cost the government more than Rwf160 billion to complete the upgrade
works on Amahoro National Stadium. The government will also spend an additional Rwf 5
billion worth of supervision funds to take the total cost of the stadium upgrade to around Rwf165
billion
Amahoro Stadium will be part of the proposed Remera sports hub alongside the likes of
rebranded BK Arena and Amahoro indoor stadium, commonly known as Petit Stade as well as
the Paralympic Games Gymnasium located in the capital of the country.
After completion, as expected in June 2024, the Amahoro stadium will be one of the best modern
state-of-the-art stadiums in the East Africa region and Africa. The facility is expected to host
international football matches and also concerts and public events upon completion in June 2024.
The stadium will be fully roofed and fitted with seats with another artificial turf open stadium on
the side.
The company employs more than 2,100 workers in construction, with about 95% being people
from Rwanda. The expansion of the Stadium is expected to significantly enhance the comfort
and experience of spectators, and contribute to the growth of sports and entertainment in the
