The chief executive officer of the Roads Authority (RA), Conrad Lutombi, has officially granted approval for the commencement of the construction of the Engoyi-Omuntele road in Namibia.

This decision comes in response to the grievances raised by Tonateni Shidhudhu, an engaged member of the Omuntele village community located within the Oshikoto region. Documented in a dated correspondence on the 27th of July, 2023, Tonateni Shidhudhu expressed concerns and dissatisfaction with the prevailing state of the road infrastructure. As a result of this communication, the Roads Authority has taken heed of the pressing matters outlined by Shidhudhu and has subsequently greenlit the initiative to undertake the construction project for the Engoyi-Omuntele road.

The Implementation of the project had been fraught with uncertainties stemming from unsubstantiated rumors that the Roads Authority (RA) was leaning towards giving precedence to the construction of a gravel road connecting Omuthiya to Onanke, potentially leaving the stretch between Engoyi and Omuntele in the lurch.

Tonateni Shidhudhu, a seasoned journalist who transitioned into a communications specialist role, exhibited a profound seriousness in his reaction to this prospective decision. He articulated a well-founded argument, contending that such a prioritization would unjustly disadvantage the residents residing along the Engoyi-Omuntele road, which stands in dire need of substantial reconstruction and improvement.

While initially experiencing a sense of disappointment due to the delayed response, Tonateni Shidhudhu has since conveyed a sentiment of contentment and approval regarding the subsequent actions undertaken by the Roads Authority (RA) to acknowledge and tackle the challenges faced by the affected community.

In a recent announcement, Conrad Lutombi revealed that the eagerly anticipated road upgrade will officially commence on the 1st of September, marking a significant milestone in this endeavor. Notably, the responsibility for this undertaking has been entrusted to the Roads Contractor Company.

As the project’s commencement date draws near, residents of the area are filled with anticipation, eagerly looking forward to the prospective improvements in road conditions. These enhancements are anticipated to alleviate the difficulties encountered during daily commutes and to elevate the overall accessibility within the region.

It’s Important to highlight that inadequate road infrastructure continues to be a substantial challenge in the Oshikoto region, particularly within the constituencies of Engodi, Okankolo, and Nehale lya Mpingana.
