Côte d’Ivoire and Cybastion has signed two MoUs to support in the realization of digital infrastructures in Côte d’Ivoire. The deals will in particular be the creation of an administrative city and the construction of a data center. Amadou Coulibaly, the Ivorian minister of communication and the digital economy, signed the agreements on Wednesday.
Through these two deals, Côte d’Ivoire has just formalized a partnership that aims to unite all state structures involved in the single-site digital economy and backup data center security within the framework of Côte d’Ivoire’s digital sovereignty.
This new initiative is the result of a lengthy process that started in 2022 with the visit to Côte d’Ivoire of an influential American delegation and the signing of a MoU between the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy and Cybastion Institute of Technology on December 15, 2022, at the Africa-USA Summit.
The deals to build digital infrastructures in Côte d’Ivoire comes as a revolution in the country
These agreements, in the opinion of Thierry Wandji, CEO of the Cybastion Institute of Technology, lay the way for a true digital revolution in Côte d’Ivoire. They arrive as the nation searches for financing to carry out its plan to build digital infrastructures.
The government estimated that it will require more over $3 billion for this purpose in October 2022. The consortium, a representative of American coalition backed by American government will be able to encourage investments in this area. By 2050, the digital economy in Africa would be worth $712 billion, or 8.5% of the continent’s GDP.
Additionally, it should be noted that the two parties have inked a framework agreement. For the implementation of the cybersecurity support contract in Côte d’Ivoire.
