Bui Power Authority (BPA) has partnered with Huawei to build an eLTE broadband private network that will improve operations coverage at the hydro-solar hybrid power plant.
The Bui hydro-solar power station produces 404MW of hydro power with an additional 50MW generated from the solar installations on the site.
Huawei’s eLTE Broadband network will provide the hydro-solar power plant in Ghana with essential communication and operation management services.
The eLTE Broadband network will ensure effective maintenance at the Bui Hydro Solar power plant
The network will carry voice, video and data services to enable smooth and instant communication between the control room. Features like push to talk and group calls will make maintenance and handling of emergencies more effective at the power plant.

It will penetrate the substantial concrete barriers and infrastructure at the power plant covering both indoor and outdoor working areas including roadways inside the dam, generator rooms and employee living areas within the Bui vicinity.Â
Ghana Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Prempeh who was present during the unveiling of the broadband network emphasized on the importance of ICT systems in providing intelligent energy management that is critical for ensuring efficient power generation, power plant operations and power distribution.
“They enable renewable energy to be integrated into the grid for the reliable, stable access and supply needed in order to achieve the country’s goal of universal electricity access by 2025,” he reiterated.
“It is important for us to unleash the transformational power of ICT in optimizing the operations of power plants, increasing the efficiency of renewable energy use and ensuring a stable and cost-effective electricity supply to many more households nationwide,” said Dr. Prempeh.
The role of Bui Generating Station as an important provider of hydro-electric power in the country has been strengthened and complemented by the installation of a 250MW Solar PV facility and an additional 5MW Floating Solar Plant.
