Hydrogen Park Gladstone, a visionary project with a budget of A$14.5 million, is now officially under construction. In a remarkable development for Gladstone, the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) has initiated this groundbreaking endeavor. It has been boosted by a significant A$2.72 million contribution from the Queensland government’s Hydrogen Industry Development Fund.

In early 2024, HyP Gladstone will revolutionize energy by supplying renewable hydrogen to 800 homes and local businesses. What’s more, you won’t need to modify your appliances, gas connections, or monthly bills. Additionally, it seamlessly blends up to 10% renewable hydrogen into your gas supply.

Transforming Gladstone’s Energy Landscape with Hydrogen Park Construction

As the green energy era dawns, Queensland’s Deputy Premier, Steven Miles, underscores the significance of this monumental effort. “Today, we embark on a major leap to transform our state into a renewable energy powerhouse,” he passionately declares. “Queensland leads the green hydrogen revolution, allocating over A$165 million to drive renewable energy and hydrogen industry development. It’s all about embracing the limitless possibilities this offers.”

Miles goes on to underline how the region is uniquely poised to embrace these transformative changes brought by the Hydrogen Park in Gladstone. Gladstone’s strategic port facilities, access to vital infrastructure, and skilled workforce perfectly position it to tap into this renewables renaissance. “We released the Queensland New Industry Development Strategy earlier this year,” Miles explains. As a shining example, it places Queensland at the vanguard of hydrogen production in an increasingly decarbonized world.

AGIG’s CEO, Craig de Laine, emphasizes the growing significance of renewable gas, notably hydrogen, in our evolving landscape. Each day, this importance grows, and our valued customers, including substantial industrial partners, eagerly embrace renewable options like hydrogen. This not only aids in achieving Safeguard targets but also aligns with Queensland’s overarching low-carbon objectives.

Hydrogen Park Gladstone represents a significant milestone in AGIG’s journey through the renewable hydrogen landscape in Australia. It serves as the pioneer of city-wide projects, pushing boundaries and showcasing the low-carbon future of gas supply in Australia. Furthermore, the state-of-the-art gas distribution network can deliver renewable gases, including hydrogen, securely, reliably, and with minimal additional costs. It’s a thrilling chapter in the transition towards a greener, more sustainable future.
