Kenya Standard Gauge Railway is yet to be extended as the Kenyan government still has hopes of securing a deal with China that will enable the completion of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) all the way to Malaba in Uganda. This major announcement comes after high level discussions were held between the president of the Republic of Kenya William Samoei Ruto and the Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. Unfortunately the discussion failed to bear such a deal or an agreement for extension.

Moreover, he also got to thank the Chinese government for the support they have accorded the country in implementing major infrastructural projects in the country including the Kenya Standard Gauge Railway. The CS also stated that he looks forward to getting into partnership with the Chinese side in order to enable the setting up of road projects, railway lines, ports and airports through the public-private partnerships in the country and also government to government agreements that will be reached in the coming future.

Kenya Standard Gauge Railway Extension

According to the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Ministry of Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen, stated that Kenya will keep on involving itself with the ongoing engagements with Beijing so that they would bag the deal for the support for expanding the Kenya Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) which will start from Naivasha and extend all the way to Malaba in Uganda with the ultimate goal of extending it up to Kampala. Murkomen made the statement after coming back from the Belt and Road Initiative forum (BRI) that was held in Beijing.

The extension is also foreseen to bring about economic boost in the country as it is going to enable movement of goods at a faster rate. This is going to boost trade and transport in the two countries involved in this railway project.
