Kenya Smartphone Assembly Plant will be launched and this marks a very significant move that is going to greatly democratize smartphone access in the Republic of Kenya. Moreover, Kenya has also just recently gotten to mark history by unveiling its very first local smartphone assembly plant in the country. Known as the East Africa Device Assembly Kenya Limited (EADAK), the plant was newly unveiled by his Excellency the President of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto. The plant stands out to be a local Mobile Network Operations which is inclusive of Safaricom and Jamii Telecommunications and The Chinese firm Shenzhen TeleOne Technology.

The devices that will be locally produced by the Kenya Smartphone Assembly Plant will be available in all the dealer stores and Faiba shops as well as Safaricom shops and the Masoko online platform will be selling at a price of KES. 7499 which is equivalent to $50.

Kenya Smartphone Assembly Plant Capacity

This smartphone assembly plant comes as a result of the promise by the Kenyan government to set up a phone manufacturing factory that will be able to produce a total of 3 million smartphones in a single year. The assembly plant is set to support the agenda of the Kenyan government of enhancing digital inclusion in the region.

According to a statement made by the CEO of Safaricom Peter Ndegwa, the launch of the Kenya Smartphone Assembly Plant assures the belief of telecommunication in the power and potential of connectivity that will transform lives of several individuals and also enable the drive of economic growth. This move is also anticipated to enable the expansion of 4G network access and also empower millions of Kenyans via the generation of jobs and also empower the citizens of the country by providing them with high quality and affordable mobile phones.

The mobile phones that will be available at the launch in the coming few months will include the 4G-enabled Neon 5 Smart and 6 1/2 Ultra. More devices will also be present as a way of diversifying the range of products that will be available.
