This was revealed by the Green Energy Cluster Algeria. The revelation came following a meeting between its managing director and the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Mohamed Arkab.

Reportedly this call for tender is the second under the Sonelgaz group-led project. It will be financed by the State and it will see the construction of 2000MW solar power plants.

About the first call for tender and the 15000MW renewable energy project in Algeria at large

The first call for tender for this project was launched on February 27, 2023. It concerns the development and construction of 15 solar power plants with a total capacity of 2GW. The power plants will reportedly be built at 11 sites, with capacities ranging from 80MW to 220MW. The deadline for the submission of the tenders was set for May 29, 2023.

The 15000MW renewable energy project in Algeria on the other hand is the second flagship project to be launched in the country. The first was the Solar 1000 project. For the latter, a tender for the production of 1000MW of electricity from solar energy was launched in December 2021.

The project lead

According to the adviser to the CEO of the Sonelgaz group, Mr. Yacine Réda Rédouane, the public group was commissioned to carry out the project at the end of January 2023.
