The Katsina State Government recently disclosed that it has disbursed over N300 million for the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport expansion in Katsina. The State Head of Service, Usman Isyaku, shared this update during a press briefing held shortly after welcoming officials from the Federal Ministry of Aviation, who were present to inspect the commencement of four key projects at the Airport.

The minister stressed that they are targeting the project’s completion before the onset of next year’s rainy season. They have structured the project into four distinct categories, which include establishing a contemporary terminal building to serve Katsina for the next fifty years. One facet of the project involves the creation of a fire and truck maintenance and repair center, cargo facilities, and comprehensive apron buildings. Regarding the terminal building, they have scheduled its completion within a year. Similarly, they project the finalization of the cargo center within six months.
Engineer Clement Olayinka, the Director of air drone development, who headed the delegation from the Federal Ministry of Aviation, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Radda for the expeditious allocation of land for the project. The director praised the governor’s enthusiasm and dedication, which facilitated the swift provision of the necessary land. He further confirmed that they have mobilized all contractors, who are actively preparing to join the inspection team in readiness for the project’s commencement.
The expansion of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport is expected to not only enhance air travel facilities but also to contribute significantly to the economic development of Katsina State. The modernization of the airport and the establishment of the fire truck maintenance center and cargo terminal will position the region to attract more businesses, investments, and increased tourism, leading to job creation and improved livelihoods for the local community.
