The state government of Ogun has unveiled the “Ogun State GRA Regeneration Programme”. The latter was the idea of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun to rebuild the state’s Government Reservation Areas (GRA).

It involves the construction of modern housing units on over 100 hectares of land in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Ota, amongst other areas. As part of the program, the obsolete and dilapidated buildings that share the characteristics of slum areas will be replaced with the general framework of an overall plan for modern city development.
Start of the implementation of the Ogun State GRA Regeneration Programme
According to Jagunmolu Jamiu Akande Omoniyi the state’s Commissioner for Housing, the government is in the process of kick-starting the regeneration programme of Ibara GRA and the government housing units at Idi Aba, Abeokuta.
Noteworthy, the Abeokuta metropolis has close to 40 hectares of land earmarked for the Ogun State GRA Regeneration Programme. This includes some 7.5 and more than 30 hectares of land that the Idi Aba housing scheme and the GRA Ibara sit on respectively.
Speaking to local journalists during the project site visit the commissioner said, “We have gone around the site. During the tour, we saw that the residents here had heeded the vacation notice. We are thus ready to commence the demolition of the old and dilapidated structures in this metropolis and begin planning to build smart cities.
Upon completion, the Ibara scheme will have 500 housing units while Idi-Aba will have a total of 100 units. The units will have between 4 and 5 bedrooms of different sizes complemented by world-class infrastructural facilities.
Beneficiaries of the Ogun State GRA Regeneration Programme
According to Omoniyi civil servants will be prioritized in the allocation of houses in this regeneration programme.
