Portuguese group builds tallest building in Gibraltar, a place known for its scenic beauty and limited land availability, is witnessing a remarkable transformation in its skyline with the completion of the first phase of Hassan Centenary Terraces (HCT), a groundbreaking project that aims to address the pressing housing demands of the region. Developed by the Casais Group, a prominent company hailing from Braga, Portugal, with nearly two decades of experience in Gibraltar, this ambitious venture comprises six towering structures, three of which are now proudly standing as symbols of architectural achievement.
Casais Group, founded in 1958, has been actively involved in various real estate endeavors in Gibraltar, spanning residential, building rehabilitation, educational facilities, and industrial structures. However, HCT holds a special place in their portfolio, not only for its scale but also for its alignment with Gibraltar’s Affordable Housing Scheme.
Phase one
The first phase of HCT introduces three towers, each a testament to modern construction techniques and adherence to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria. Notably, block four of the project soars to a remarkable height of 110 meters, making it Gibraltar’s tallest building, equipped with 35 floors of contemporary living spaces. Gibraltar’s housing landscape has long grappled with high demand and limited land availability, leading to soaring real estate costs. The completion of HCT’s first phase represents a significant milestone in addressing this issue, offering 380 new properties to meet the housing needs of the community.
Fabian Picardo, Chief Minister of the Government of Gibraltar, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s success, underlining the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing options for the community. He noted that the investment in HCT signifies a significant step towards benefiting younger generations and families who have faced housing challenges in the past.
