Balwin Properties has officially opened a newly constructed double-lane Hazeldean road to city of Tshwane , which is expected to ease the problem of traffic congestion in the region, situated to the east of Pretoria.

As per the most recent traffic index from TomTom, Pretoria is rated as South Africa’s most congested urban area, with an annual average of 145 hours (equivalent to 6 days) spent in rush hour, and a typical 16-minute drive to cover a 10-kilometer distance.

Steve Brookes, the CEO of Balwin Properties, expressed their strong commitment to community development beyond their immediate surroundings. He noted that the newly established Hazeldean Boulevard serves as a crucial connection between Mamelodi and Silver Lakes, which will help alleviate congestion on Silver Lakes Drive.

He further expressed pride In officially handing over this significant piece of infrastructure to the City of Tshwane, aligning with their ongoing dedication to the Special Infrastructure Project (SIP) outlined by the government some time ago.

Hazeldean Boulevard covers a distance of 3 kilometers and features an underpass beneath the N4 highway, connecting Ridge Road in the Hazeldean Precinct with Lagoon Drive in Riverwalk. This construction offers Hazeldean residents a northern exit to Bronkhorstspruit Road and provides Riverwalk commuters with a southern exit to Lynnwood Road.

Construction cost for the double-lane Hazeldean road

This new road, which cost R94 million, is a component of Balwin’s ongoing development of bulk infrastructure worth R415 million in the Tshwane node. This extensive project encompasses the construction of a water reservoir at La Montaque, upgrades to bulk water and bulk sewer systems, along with improvements to roads and bulk electrical infrastructure within the Mooikloof Mega City area.

Councillor Cilliers Brink, the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, emphasized the essential partnership between the government and the private sector. He stressed that infrastructure development and electricity generation require the active involvement of the private sector and the establishment of mechanisms that assure investors of their funds’ responsible use. He commended the private sector partners for their contribution to this project, highlighting its benefits for the city and its residents in terms of reducing congestion.

The construction of the road alone”generated around 658 direct and indirect employment opportunities, while the entire impact of these bulk infrastructure projects is estimated to result in R718 million, creating roughly 2,009 direct and indirect job opportunities.
