The Princess Lalla Asmae Center for Deaf Children, a new education and training center for children with hearing impairments, was opened in Tangier by Princess Lalla Asmae, President of the Foundation. In addition, Lalla Asmae led the launch of a large-scale awareness campaign entitled ‘White Ear’, which aims to give a voice to those who are often invisible in society.
Princess Lalla Asmae presided over the signing of an agreement on the “Awrach” program.
The center, built on a covered area of 2,550 m², has 20 classrooms, four sewing, hairdressing, pastry and computer workshops, five offices, a dining room and a sports field. Several other dependencies will complement the center’s activities.The construction of the center required a total investment of 15 million dirhams (MDH) not including the cost of land, which was provided to the Lalla Asmae Foundation by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
During the opening ceremony, Karim Essakalli said: “This center is much more than just a building, it reflects our shared vision of inclusion and equal opportunities.” To open perspectives,” says the coordinator of the Lalla Asmae Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth.
The wilaya in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region has provided the Foundation with premises for the establishment of a hearing rehabilitation center whose mission will be to receive local children who have been diagnosed as deaf or hard of hearing through newborn hearing screening.
The director of Center, Latifa Mars, pointed out that the center, which follows the public education system, includes an educational pole with pre-school, primary and secondary school classes, as well as a vocational training pole with 4 workshops for sewing, hairdressing and confectionery. and informatics, as well as a health center that offers services in speech therapy, sensorimotor and psychosensory re-education, and follow-up of children’s medical records. He stressed that the center also offers sports and cultural activities to the beneficiaries to promote their personal development.

This centre, which has mobilized a total investment of MAD 15 million (excluding land costs), has been equipped thanks to the commitment and collaboration of the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF), the Office of Education and Vocational Development of Labor (OFPPT) and the Regional Directorate of the Department of Health and Social Protection.
