Recently, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) completed a transit oriented development dubbed Avalon Harrison at the Harrison Metro-North station, New York. It’s the first transportation centered residential and retail development of its kind in Harrison.

Governor Kathy Hochul, MTA leaders and officials from AvalonBay Communities were gathered at Harrison Metro-North station to announce the project’s completion. They all collaborated on the Avalon Harrison project with the aim of promoting downtown revitalization. Additionally, they expect the new development to improve the environment and healthy lifestyles. Especially since it will offer residents easy access to shops, amenities, and rail stations which are within walking distance.

The Avalon Harrison project was a two phase development and its initial phase opened in August of 2021. This first phase involved the construction of a 598-space commuter parking garage. Upon completion, Metro-North owned and operated the new parking garage, located near the Harrison station’s Connecticut-bound platform.

With the second phase of the Avalon Harrison project complete, the development now offers 143 apartments in three residential buildings. Additionally, it also provides 7 affordable apartments subsidized by Westchester County. Residents at the community will have access to 5,000 square feet of interior amenities as well.

Furthermore, Avalon Harrison features a 27,000 square foot street-level retail/commercial component. There are also two landscaped public plazas at the community which link to the Metro-North Harrison Station platform. It provides 758 parking spaces in total along with 475 Metro-North customer parking spaces. In addition, 96 retail and 187 residential parking spaces are also available on the property.

Governor Hochul was pleased with the outcome of the Avalon Harrison project. The governor pointed out that the completion of this beautiful complex completely transforms the area around Harrison Station. Furthermore, she said the new development would serve in attracting new customers to Metro-North’s cleaner and greener public transportation services.

The Avalon Harrison project is part of the Governor’s agenda to increase the housing supply in New York State. Hochul also said her administration will continue to do everything possible to build new housing in every corner of the state
