Construction on the Merriam Grand Station Lofts in Kansas recently began. It is anticipated that the apartment complex will be a component of the US$136 million Grand Station project. 361 luxurious apartments totalling 505,000 square feet will be added to Merriam in the vicinity of Shawnee Mission Parkway approximately east of Interstate 35. Two four-story buildings and 73,000 square feet of below-grade parking will be developed as part of the residential complex.

According to a press release, the lofts are being built by general contractor Brinkmann Constructors. The Merriam City Council approved bonds for the larger development in August 2022. The residential part will receive a sales tax exemption on building supplies, machinery, labour, and furnishings.

This is thanks to $93 million in industrial revenue bonds. Additionally, it makes a 100% 10-year property tax abatement conceivable. $9 million in bonds will grant a comparable sales tax exemption for the commercial component.

More on Merriam Grand Station Lofts in Kansas

Merriam Grand Station is being built by Drake Development LLC. The building will also have two sit-down restaurants totalling 5,600 square feet each and retail space spread across 3,300 square feet in addition to the residences. By a press release, the residential complex plans to be finished by 2025. The bigger Merriam Grand Station also plans to open in 2019.

A courtyard pool, a pet wash area, game rooms, and electric vehicle charging stations will all be provided as apartment amenities. The area had been abandoned for about ten years before Drake decided to renovate it. The Merriam Kmart location used to be in this region.

Last year, Pennington stated, “I believe the Merriam Grand Station is the catalyst to start the engine in Merriam.” Developments feed development as more people move to Merriam and more properties are built nearby, and we’ll probably be at the forefront of looking for ways to make that region better.
