New York City officials (NYC) have initiated the final phase of the Broadway Vision plan to improve public space and safety in the street of midtown Manhattan. Work that was completed last week includes two new plazas, shared streets and two-way bicycle links along Broadway between West 25th Street and West 32nd Street.

Broadway Vision Plan aims to create safe and vibrant public spaces along Broadway from Union Square to Columbus Circle and from Madison Square to Herald Square.

Broadway now features several traffic calming measures and public space improvements. The updates will also improve parking, cycling, and pedestrian safety.

“Today we’re making significant improvements to seven blocks of Broadway, reclaiming space for people and showing the world that New York is back,” Adams said.“This project has been discussed for years and our administration got the job done in just a few months for New Yorkers to enjoy this summer. We are making even more permanent improvements to further develop this iconic and accessible road in the future.” . Call Promises made, promises kept.

“This new concept for our Broadway Corridor creates beautiful public spaces and increases pedestrian safety and comfort. It’s ideal for business and community,” said restaurant owner Sam Lip.

The next phase of the project will focus mainly on capital improvements between West 21st Street and West 33rd Street.

Adams says there will be a Broadway Vision-like project in every borough of New York.

“Congratulations to the New York City Department of Transportation and the Director of Public Spaces for bringing Broadway back to the people,” said Daniel McPhee, executive director of the Urban Design Forum. “We have a fun new public space in the heart of our city. We look forward to continuing to clean up more streets, under the leadership of Mayor Adams, so New Yorkers can safely eat, walk and play.”
