The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for the Kuwait Zakath housing village took place yesterday. This was in commemoration of launching the second phase of the Zakat Houses construction project. The ceremony was under the patronage of Urban Development and Housing Minister to Kuwait, Prasanna Ranatunga. The construction project which is funded by local construction company, Zakat Houses has so far completed the first phase of the project. The construction contract being enacted by the company is at the invitation of the Minister of State for Rural Economy, Kader Mastan. The scope of the project is to feature 125 homes at its completion.

The Zakat House project designed to facilitate and aid the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are beginning resettlement in the district of Mannar. Each house construction is budgeted at 1.8 million rupees. The first phase of the project which is already open comprised of 75 houses and costed Rs. 105 million to complete construction.  The resettlement scheme of those displaced by conflict is overseen by the Urban Development and Housing Ministry. Various esteemed dignitaries of the Kuwait government such as the minister of State for Rural Economy Kader Mastan, Deputy Ambassador of Kuwait to Sri Lanka, Badar Alno Waim among others were in attendance Zakat Houses second phase construction kick off.
