Updated November 10, 2025: The construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line has reached 10 percent completion, five months after its groundbreaking. The milestone was announced by Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority. The project spans 30 kilometers and includes 14 stations. Furthermore, it links the Red and Green Lines. It also connects key residential, economic and educational districts. Over 500 engineers and experts, along with 3,000 workers are currently deployed across 12 sites to accelerate progress.
Al Tayer confirmed that work is proceeding on schedule, with 30 percent completion expected by the end of 2026. Furthermore, operations are set to begin on 9th September, 2029. The Dubai Metro Blue Line is one of RTA’s most strategic projects, serving areas expected to house around one million residents by 2040. It will also offer direct journeys to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes. The project is complimented by the Dubai Metro gold line project which was recently awarded to US-based Aecom.

Moreover, he added that the line supports the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) by promoting the ‘20-minute city’ concept. It also reduces traffic congestion by 20 percent. Furthermore, it is projected to increase property values around stations by up to 25 percent. RTA reported that over 3 million work hours have been completed without any fatalities. The achievement reflects adherence to the highest international safety standards. More than 260 deep foundations and 400,000 cubic meters of excavation have been completed.
The consortium has also established two ready-mix concrete plants and production yards in Al Ruwayyah 3 and International City to enhance construction efficiency. The 30 km line will run in two directions: the first from Creek Interchange Station on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf to Dubai Academic City, and the second from Centerpoint Interchange Station on the Red Line in Al Rashidiya to International City. The project’s architectural centerpiece will be the Emaar Station, set to become the world’s highest metro station at 74 meters.
October 7, 2025: The multi-billion Dubai Metro Blue Line Contract worth $5.6 billion has just been awarded to a Turkish-Chinese consortium by RTA. This rail project is designed to curb the city congestion that is usually experienced in order to accommodate the growing city population of Dubai. The Blue Line consists of 14 stations, including three interchange stations at Al-Jaddaf, Al-Rashidiya and International City 1. Furthermore, it also consists of an iconic station in Dubai Creek Harbour. By 2040, daily ridership on the Blue Line is projected to reach 320,000 passengers. It will be the first Dubai Metro line to cross Dubai Creek on a 1,300-metre-long viaduct. Other than the Dubai Metro Blue Line, Dubai is making considerable progress on the Gold Line.

This completion date is now 20 years to the day since the opening of Dubai Metro, initially with a total of 10 Red Line stations, on 9th September 2009.
The Dubai Blue Line is foreseen to bring in a total of Dh46.5 billion of economic benefits by the year 2040. Additionally, this project is expected to cut traffic congestion on major roads by up to 20 per cent.
Companies Awarded the Dubai Metro Blue Line Contract
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) awarded this major contract to a consortium that comprises of three Chinese and Turkish companies. This consortium comprises of Mapa, Limak and CRRC. This information was revealed by Dubai Media Office.

Furthermore, this project is expected to offer direct links between Dubai International Airport and main key areas that lie along the route. The Blue Line project will have a capacity of up to 46,000 passengers per hour in either direction. Moreover, it will have a train frequency of roughly 2 minutes. Moreover the Dubai Blue Line Metro is foreseen to serve approximately 200,000 everyday by the year 2030. This is still expected to increase to 320,000 per day by the year 2040.
