GSU Inaugurates 50MW Noor Chad Solar Plant in Djamena, Chad

UAE-based Global South Utilities (GSU) which is part of Abu Dhabi’s Resources Investment LTD has inaugurated the 50MW Noor Chad Solar Plant that is backed by 5-MWh of battery energy storage capacity in Chad.

The inauguration was attended by Mahamat Ahmad Alhabo, Minister of State and Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic of Chad, along with Chad ministers, GSU CEO and managing director Ali Alshimmari, and the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Chad, Rashid Al Shamsi.

Location

The renewable energy project is located in N’Djamena. Additionally, the Noor Chad Project delivery included more than 350,000 work-hours facility and depends on over 81,000 solar panels and 158 inverters.

Capacity of the Project

The facility is capable of powering approximately 274,000 homes annually. This will foresee the elimination of more than 1.36 million tonnes of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. Furthermore, it will now be operated by GSU. The facility joins D’jermaya solar plant in serving as a model for future renewable energy developments in the country.

“This is the first project we have delivered from signature to commissioning in Africa,” said GSU’s chief executive Ali Alshimmari.

“It proves how quickly these markets can move when there is determination and effective partnerships that turn challenges into opportunities.”
