Saudi Arabia’s energy giant Acwa Power which is a global leader in establishing of desalination projects and also renewable energy projects. “The company has entered into a partnership with the Moroccan-based subsidiary of the Sino-European Group, Gotion Power Morocco.” “In its latest endeavor, the company will be participating in the Morocco’s Gotion EV Gigafactory $800 Million Wind Power Project,” a news report stated.

“In this partnership that the two companies have entered, they will embark on the construction of an $800 million,500MW wind power plant. Moreover, it will boast a capacity of 2,000 megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage solution. This will be utilized in powering the upcoming Gotion EV battery gigafactory that will be located in Kentira , Morocco.” a report from the news said.

“Having a planned capacity of 20 gigawatt-hours (GWh), this upcoming battery production facility is part of a bigger $1.8 billion suite of partnerships that have already been signed by Acwa Power at the sidelines of the 8th Future Investment Initiative (FII8) that took place in Riyadh from the 29th of October to 31st,” reports indicate.

Significance of the Gotion EV Gigafactory

“The construction works of the Gotion High-Techโ€™s landmark project will commence in June 2026, representing an investment worth $1.24 billion,” a report read.

“The main aim of this upcoming gigafactory is to produce EV batteries. It will also generate about 17,000 both direct and indirect employment opportunities. This ambitious project is being led by Khalid Qalam, who is the President of Gotion Power Morocco. “Furthermore, this landmark project is foreseen to further integrate Morocco into the global value chains. It will also bolster its standing as a leader in industrial development in the Africa.” a report said.

Gotion’s Goals

According to reports of Gotion, “This endeavor marks the first phase of their industrial expansion into the North African country.”

“The company has a very ambitious vision of scaling up its production capacity to 100GWh. The total investment expected to be put in place to achieve this is around $6.3 billion.”

“Additionally, the development of this EV gigafactory in Morocco will surely boost the country. This is especially in electric mobility and revolution in the African region, “Morocco’s Prime Minister commented. Gotion has showcased prowess in its endavor, with an impressive portfolio of having set up gigafactories in the United States, Europe, and even Asia.
