The Toyota Stadium is a soccer stadium located in Frisco, Dallas, Texas. It first opened in 2005 and has 20,500 seats. The primary tenants of the stadium are the Major League Soccer (MLS) FC Dallas club and the Frisco Independent School District. The stadium was the third MLS soccer-specific stadium to be built in the United States. It cost nearly US$80 million and opened its doors to the public in late summer 2005. It, however, still hosts American Football games at the stadium.

Previous Renovations
The stadium went through renovation in 2018 which included new field access tunnels, a press conference room, team shop stalls and a major upgrade to the locker rooms. Whatโs more, there was a new multi-tiered viewing stand that replaced the old bleacher section with a European-style roof built over the south end of the stadium. All this came at a cost of US$55 million and made the stadium even more popular. However, there were a few complaints made that the roof structures should include the west and east end of the stands to protect fans during the blistering summer heat in the southern state. These renovations have been included in the upcoming renovation plans.
Upcoming Renovation
Earlier this week, Frisco City Council gave the green light for the US$182 million stadium renovation. Aimed to begin in 2025, the stadium will include expanded seating capacity and the much-needed shade covering most of the stands that we talked about. There will be three new premium clubs and improvement on the ingress and egress (capacity of entrance and exit). Because food is a major part of games, there will be an increase in the points-of-sale for food and beverage by nearly 60% and in washroom space by 26%.

In addition to all these new features, the stadium intends to add two new suite levels. This will increase the club seating capacity by a staggering 175% and the suite capacity by 58%. Overall, the stadium capacity will increase by 10%. The renovation plans include a new press box, media, and broadcast suites. Moreover, a new state of the art sound system and the largest video board in a soccer-specific venue in MLS, built by Daktronics and measuring 6,000 square feet and just over 141 feet long.
Design and Construction Team
The project team includes HKS who is in charge of the design while Manhattan Construction will be in charge of building the various structures. The east side of the construction will be completed by 2026, summer. This is when construction on the west side will begin. The whole renovation project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028. During the whole process, FC Dallas and other teams will still be able to play matches at the stadium.
