East Java Terminal Project

The East Java Multipurpose Terminal (EJMT) is a new deep-water multipurpose port facility located at Terminal Umum Tanjung Pakis – Pelabuhan Brondong in Lamongan Regency, East Java, Indonesia, developed as a joint venture between International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) and East Log Holdings — an Indonesian offshore oil and gas supply base specialist — to create a modern trade gateway serving the Lamongan, Tuban, and Central Java hinterlands. Featuring a 300-metre quay line, a 13.5-metre deep-water draft, a 500-metre swinging basin, two of the largest post-Panamax mobile harbour cranes in East Java, and a super heavy lift breakbulk deck, the terminal handles bulk, project, and containerised cargo including decommissioned offshore platforms. EJMT officially commenced operations on 2 October 2024, completing construction within an 18-month timeframe, and immediately enabling international liner connectivity and direct imports to Lamongan Shorebase, reducing transit times and logistics costs for oil and gas clients across Indonesia. The EJMT’s rapid delivery stands in contrast to the longer gestation of more technologically complex port projects elsewhere in the region, including Incheon New Port Phase 1-2 in South Korea — where five years of substructure works on reclaimed land have just concluded ahead of a 27-month superstructure phase, with the fully automated terminal targeting a 2028 opening and an annual capacity of 1.38 million TEUs.
