Egyptian Minister Mostafa Madbouli inaugurated on Sunday the “Elite Solar” Solar Energy Technology Manufacturing Complex at the TEDA-Egypt industrial developer zone in the Sokhna industrial area that falls under the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). The opening of the 5GW Elite Solar Manufacturing Complex project came at the start of an extensive tour to inaugurate a number of factories in the zone, attended by ministers, the governor of Suez, the head of SCZONE, senior officials and representatives of industrial developers and project companies.
The inauguration of this mega solar manufacturing plant project in Egypt is part of the State’s efforts to deepen local manufacturing of renewable energy components and promote the transition to a green economy.

Two Solar Manufacturing Plants Inaugurated
Furthermore, the prime minister opened two plants within the Elite Solar Complex. The first one which is the Elite Solar Suez Technology will specialized in manufacturing electronic components and solar cells. This facility is built on an area of 41,835 square meters, it represents investments of dlrs 40 million, has a production capacity of 2 gigawatts, and will create about 400 direct and 40 indirect jobs.
Additionally, the second one, Elite Solar Green Energy, will manufacture electronic panels and components related to solar energy technology. This facility has been established on 35,479 square meters, with investments of $76 million. Also, it boasts a production capacity of 3 gigawatts and will generate approximayely 460 direct and 130 indirect jobs, supporting technology transfer and value-chain integration for renewable energy industries within SCZONE.
Significance of the Project
According to Madbouli, the Complex marks an important step toward localizing renewable energy industries in Egypt. Furthermore, it supports the transition to a green economy and strengthens Egypt’s position as a regional hub for manufacturing solar energy components. All these are in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
Lastly, according to SCZONE Chairman Walid Gamal el-Din, the project reflects the authority’s success in attracting technology and knowledge-based investments. Also, it reflects advancing the localization of advanced solar technologies in Egypt.
Egypt Emerges as a Leading Solar Projects Developer in Africa
Other than just, coming up with technology for harnessing solar power, Egypt is also a leading developer of solar energy projects in Africa. Recently the country finished constructing the Kom Ombo Solar Plant which is the largest of its kind in Egypt. Such projects position Egypt as a top solar energy investment destination in Africa.
