The AMG Industrial park railway project is taking shape as Ethiopia has begun construction of the 3-kilometer railway line. The link is expected to connect the industrial park to Endode station as noted by the Ethio-Djibouti Corporation. Furthermore, the project is being designed and executed by local-based engineers. It is scheduled for completion within six months and expected to have a vital impact. Its completion will support the transport of AMG’s products such as coffee and metals.

The railway will also play a vital link from the park to regional and international markets. “Construction of this line is expected to streamline the movement of goods between industrial zones and the railway network,” said Takele Uma, CEO of Ethio-Djibouti Railways. Once complete, it will form part of a network linking industrial parks, free-trade zones, agro-processing areas and logistics centers. Authorities said it aims to improve the movement of goods and reduce transit times. Ethiopia is making commendable strides in enhancing railway transport as it leverages projects such as the Kenya-Ethiopia railway project.

The Scope of Implementation on the AMG Industrial Park Railway Project

The AMG industrial park railway project is one that is expected to have a monumental impact in Ethiopia’s economy. AMG Industrial Park is among several industrial zones in Ethiopia integrated with transport infrastructure. The main aim for this is to facilitate production and export activities. The 3-kilometer line will connect to the main Ethio-Djibouti railway corridor. This will mark a strategic shift in the country’s infrastructure ambitions. The announcement was made during a foundation-stone-laying ceremony attended by senior government officials from Ethiopia and Djibouti.

Furthermore, industry leaders and top transport executives were also present. For more than a century, Ethiopia’s link to the outside world has depended on a single rail line to Djibouti. That dependence, according to the CEO of Ethio-Djibouti Railway, has been “a 130-year-long frustration.” Furthermore, it holds monumental significance as a project fully designed and engineered by Ethiopians. It marks a shift from previous railway expansions that relied heavily on foreign loans or external contractors.

This milestone reflects the same spirit of local initiative and infrastructure-driven growth seen in the U.S., particularly with Crookston’s Colburn Industrial Park Railroad Spur construction, which seeks to strengthen regional logistics and attract new industries through enhanced rail connectivity.
