A data center estimated at $3.9 billion has been approved for development in Georgia, Spalding County despite backlashes. Construction Review earlier noted that Georgia is becoming ground zero as U.S. states aim to tame the growth of data centers. Nevertheless, as various counties and municipalities in the state aim to find amicable ways to achieve this, data centers are still growing.

On January 22, the Spalding County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved three zoning requests related to the project. This effectively allowed applicant Wallace Jackson LLC to construct a 190-acre campus located at 5745 and 5841 Jackson Road. The development is estimated it could total up to nearly five million sq ft (463,215 sqm) across ten buildings. Furthermore, the project could reach full build-out by 2035, according to the filing.

The landowner is listed as Doug of Havenwood Holdings. This is likely local developer Doug Adams, who has previously been involved with large warehouse developments in Georgia.

Scope of Implementation on Georgia Data Center in Spalding County

The approval of the data center in Georgia, Spalding County is one of the most recent approvals in the Spalding region. It is the latest to be approved by the Spalding County Board of Commissioners. The board has been keen to welcome data centers on the basis that they bring in tax revenue for the local government. Two other data center campuses, totaling 3.9 million sq ft (362,321 sqm) of building space, were approved last year by the Spalding County board of commissioners.

Furthermore, Spalding Investments LLC had filed to develop eight two-story data centers on 127 acres in Griffin. On the other hand, Montana Property Group LLC’s Project Spalding campus could total 2.55 million square feet. Spalding County is located 40 miles (64km) south of Atlanta, the state capital.
