In what is set to become one of the most significant economic announcements in Ghana’s recent history, the $1.5 billion Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone development project that is expected to create 60,000 jobs will be officially unveiled on October 21 2025, at 6 pm.
The Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GCSEZ) spans an area of 21,000 acres. The project represents a bold reimagining of sustainable development. This therefore positions Gomoa Central as a pioneer in Africa’s economic transformation.
Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone Management
The Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone project will be jointly managed by the Gomoa Central Development Trust. Also, the project will be supported by the Ghana Free Zones Authority. The project marks a decisive step towards realising Ghana’s 24-hour economy vision.
“What we are establishing in Gomoa Central isn’t just another industrial park,” stated Kwame Asare Obeng. “This is a complete ecosystem that proves sustainability and profitability can thrive together.
“We’re creating a model that Africa has never seen before, one that our children will be proud of and that will inspire similar developments across the continent.”
The Five Main Pillars of the Project
The Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone integrates five interconnected pillars. These are: a 24-hour business district designed to support 10,000 businesses by 2032, an eco-recreational park targeting one million visitors annually by 2030, organic and sustainable farming zones covering 2,100 acres, an integrated eco-industrial hub housing 200 factories, and a renewable energy-powered crypto mining facility generating over $100 million annually.
Additionally, perhaps most intriguingly, the zone will operate as a pioneering platform for AfCFTA digital currency trade, with blockchain-based systems designed to facilitate transactions across 54 African countries. The project aims to capture 30% of AfCFTA transactions by 2030, potentially adding $1.5 billion to Ghana’s GDP.
“We have spent a number of years planning this,” Kwame Asare Obeng continued. “Every element has been carefully designed so that they can work together. Furthermore, our renewable energy infrastructure will provide some of the lowest operational costs in the region. Our location gives us access to multiple ports and direct links to the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor. And our commitment to sustainability means we’re building something that will benefit generations to come.”
Also, the Gomoa Central Development Trust has secured long-term industrial leases on fully documented land. This will eliminate the legal uncertainties that have paralysed similar developments elsewhere. Additionally, affordable housing for workers in the SEZ is planned within minutes of industrial operations. There will also be youth empowerment programmes which will train one million coders to support the digital infrastructure.
Significance of the Project
“This project is a clear representation of the future we have been working towards,” Kwame Asare Obeng said. “It’s about more than job creation, though we expect to create 60,000 direct and indirect jobs. It’s about showing that Ghana can lead Africa into a new era of green industrialisation, digital innovation, and inclusive prosperity.”

The pre-launch event at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra will provide attendees with exclusive insights into investment opportunities, infrastructure plans, and the strategic vision driving this unprecedented development.
Boosting Ghana’s Economy
In another project that is expected to bring significant impact in Ghana’s economy, the country launched the Royal Ghana Gold Refinery. This refinery allows the country, which is the largest gold producer in Africa to process gold internally and export it to other countries especially in Europe.
