Swiss global fragrance and flavor giant Givaudan has officially broken ground on a new state-of-the-art liquid production facility in Reading, Ohio, marking a major expansion of its North American operations.

The $215 million investment—the company’s largest in the U.S. in recent years—underscores Givaudan’s long-term commitment to the food and beverage industry and to strengthening its manufacturing footprint across the region. The new facility will cover 24,000 square meters within a 100,000-square-meter site reserved for future growth.

“This new facility represents our largest investment in the U.S. in many years, demonstrating the importance of the market to Givaudan and to the food and beverage industry,” said Gilles Andrier, Givaudan’s Chief Executive Officer. “It is a tangible example of our 2030 strategy in action—strengthening our market and operational presence, extending customer reach, and advancing sustainable, innovative solutions that consumers love.”

Designed for scalability and environmental efficiency, the Reading plant will feature advanced technologies to maximize production output while minimizing environmental impact. Givaudan expects the facility to generate more than 300 new jobs over time, ranging across technical, operational, and managerial roles—an investment not only in infrastructure but in local talent and community growth.

“By expanding our operational capabilities, we’re positioning ourselves for future innovation as we continue to deliver tailored solutions within North America,” said Antoine Khalil, President of Givaudan Taste & Wellbeing. “Driven by the dedication of our employees, the new facility will strengthen our ability to help grow customer brands by delivering distinctive, memorable food experiences that resonate with consumers.”

Sustainability and community outreach efforts

As part of its sustainability and community outreach efforts, Givaudan will partner with local organizations to support educational and community programs. The company also confirmed that the Reading site will operate without natural gas. Aligning with its broader goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable systems such as carbon bed filtration will be integrated into the facility’s design.

Construction is already underway, with completion slated for 18 months and partial operations expected to begin in 2027. Once operational, the facility is expected to play a pivotal role in Givaudan’s North American production network. Reinforcing its position as a leader in flavor innovation and responsible manufacturing.

Givaudan’s investment is part of a growing trend of foreign companies expanding their manufacturing presence in the United States. The Swiss flavor and fragrance giant joins a wave of global firms strengthening local supply chains and boosting production capacity across the country. Lupin recently unveiled plans for a new pharmaceutical facility in Florida, while Isuzu and Samsung are moving forward with major projects in Georgia and Texas, respectively—underscoring America’s rising appeal as a hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.
