Google has outlined its plans for its Project Raspberry data center campus in Botetourt County, Virgina. The plans for the development were revealed from a notice from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk district. The facility is to be constructed on a 343.6 acre property within Greenfield Industrial Campus area in Daleville. Moreover, Google plans to construct three data center buildings each spanning around 300,000 sq. ft. It also detailed plans for three substations and a 280,000 sq. ft. office building. Other construction works for the site entail access roads, utilities, parking areas, and storm water management facilities.
Cost of Project Raspberry Data Center
Project Raspberry is estimated to cost approximately $3 billion but may change depending on circumstances. The US Army Corps of Engineers is currently soliciting comments from the public, federal, state, and local agencies and officials. Also Indian Tribes and other interested parties regarding the development are involved in the comments.
Land Purchase
Google procured 312 acres of land in the region in June 2025 for a reported $14 million at the time. Moreover, arrangements were made to spend $4 million on community projects in Botetourt. The county is located west of the city of Lynchburg near the border between Virginia and West Virginia. According to Data Center Map, the county is not currently home to any data centers. This changes the spread of data centers across the state as most seem to be occupying the southern region of the state. Virginia currently holds the record of largest data center investment market in the world competing with states such as Georgia which is second.
Scope on Google’s Data Center Investments

In August 2025, Google revealed it would invest $9bn in its data center footprint in Virginia. This included a new data center in Chesterfield County. Moreover, it entailed the expansion of the existing facilities in Loudoun and Prince William Counties. Botetourt County was unmentioned. In Richmond, Google is developing “Project Peanut,” also a three-building campus. The company is determined to fortify its place in the rapidly growing data center market across the U.S. and the globe.
