Gradiant Wins Water Contract for Hyperscale AI Data Center Campus in West Texas

Gradiant has secured a contract to design and deliver a turnkey water and wastewater system for a hyperscale data center campus under construction in West Texas, adding critical water infrastructure to a region facing growing pressure on limited water resources.

The Boston-based water technology company announced the contract on September 2, 2026, but did not identify the hyperscaler or disclose the value of the agreement.

Under the contract, Gradiant will provide the campus with potable water supply and wastewater treatment through a single integrated system. The company said the project forms part of a broader multibillion-dollar investment driving new data center development in the region.

Gradiant will deliver the project through its HyperSolved platform, which combines water-treatment technologies with CURE Chemicals and SmartOps. The platform focuses on water management for AI data centers, where high-density computing can increase cooling and water-treatment requirements.

Water constraints challenge West Texas data center growth

West Texas has emerged as a major destination for large-scale data center and energy development, but water availability presents a significant challenge for new facilities.

Gradiant said the new system will support the hyperscale campus without discharging treated wastewater to surface water. The company is engineering the water and wastewater system for zero surface-water discharge.

“This project puts Gradiant’s data center track record to work in one of the tightest schedules and toughest water constraints we’ve seen,” said Nish Vora, Managing Director, Americas at Gradiant.

The company said its Texas presence will support delivery as construction progresses, although it did not provide a specific completion date for the water infrastructure.

Gradiant expands AI data center water business

The West Texas contract adds to Gradiant’s growing portfolio of data center projects with major hyperscale customers.

The company positions HyperSolved as an integrated water platform for AI data centers, combining water-treatment equipment, chemical treatment and operational technologies. Gradiant said its broader business has delivered more than 3,000 treatment plants across 92 countries.

Prakash Govindan, CEO of Gradiant, said water availability increasingly influences where hyperscale operators can develop new capacity.

The company expects zero-surface-discharge systems to provide a way for data centers to expand in water-constrained markets while reducing pressure on local water supplies.

The West Texas data center project is not the only major U.S. development pairing large-scale computing infrastructure with new power and resource planning. In West Virginia, Google is backing a $350 million solar project that will combine 86 MW of solar generation with 380 MWh of battery storage, adding new clean-energy capacity to support growing electricity demand.
