Electric vehicle manufacturer, GreenPower Motor has reached an agreement with the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) to establish operations in Santa Teresa, the company said.
The company, headquartered in Vancouver in Canada with additional facilities in southern California and West Virginia, intends to construct a 135,000 sq. ft. facility that will house the United States corporate headquarters. It is projected to result in over 340 jobs and over $200 million of economic impact within the state of West Virginia over the next ten years.
In terms of incentives secured by the company through the development, GreenPower will receive a LEDA award of $5 million, job training assistance of $4.6 million, a Rural Jobs Tax Credit of $1.36 million, as well as a New Mexico High-Wage Jobs Tax Credit worth $3.65 million. The company was attracted by the Foreign-Trade Zone status of the site in Santa Teresa.
Fraser Atkinson, CEO of GreenPower, said: “This project takes advantage of the highly skilled workforce in the region and enables GreenPower to meet the growing demand for zero-emission buses across the United States. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said the project “will create quality jobs and boost our economy while building the carbon-free energy future that the families of New Mexico deserve.”
This move is a continuation of GreenPower’s work in New Mexico, where it has launched a two-year pilot project of electric school buses in 2025 as part of a project initiated by the Energy Transition Act to reach a goal of 100% zero-carbon electricity by 2045. GreenPower will provide Class 4 electric buses.

GreenPower’s investment in Santa Teresa adds to a growing list of U.S. electric and autonomous vehicle manufacturing projects, including Holon’s planned autonomous shuttle production facility in Jacksonville, Florida.
