Hard Rock International has announced a partnership with Misla Hospitality, Stonecrest Investment Management, and The Interfin Companies to develop the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan, an $850 million new-build project in Puerto Rico. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, with the property expected to open in 2029.
The project represents the company’s entry into the Puerto Rican market with its first hotel, casino, and residential project in the region. Designed by Klai Juba Wald and CMA Architects, the project will be inspired by Puerto Rico’s cultural and musical heritage, with the inclusion of works created by Puerto Rican artists. Once complete, the San Juan project will join the global family of Hard Rock Hotels and Resorts.
Hotel, residences, and casino plans
The project will have approximately 415 guest rooms, 58 suites, and 186 branded residences with views of San Juan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The project will be the island’s first fully integrated casino resort. Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González-Colón said the project presents an opportunity for the development of the island and pointed out that the investment is expected to create jobs and further solidify Puerto Rico’s position as the top tourism and investment location in the Caribbean.
Guests of the resort will be able to enjoy various dining options, several bars, a Rock Spa, fitness facilities, and three pool areas located on the resort’s terrace level. The resort will also offer various amenities geared towards younger travelers, such as a kids’ club and arcade.
Giorgio Borlenghi, the Chairman of The Interfin Companies, stated, “We are dedicated to the preservation of culture, the environment, and the community. We are working with local partners and artists to create a resort that reflects the culture of Puerto Rico, while also ensuring long-term benefits to the community.”
Jobs
The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan is projected to create more than 2,500 direct construction jobs and approximately 1,250 permanent positions upon opening. Hard Rock International stated the company plans to focus on building relationships with locals to help the community develop.
Tourism officials in Puerto Rico’s tourism industry received the announcement well. They stated the project has the possibility of increasing the hotel supply, helping to create more jobs, and improving the tourism experience. The resort is located near the island’s cruise ship ports and the historic Old San Juan. It is also close to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.
Like the Metropolitan Park casino project in New York — recently approved at $8.1 billion and expected to drive significant job creation and economic growth — the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan is positioned as a new engine for local employment and tourism development.
