Egypt-based Hassan Allam has won a $250 million contract to build Afreximbank’s African Trade Center (AATC) that will be based in Egypt. The project is the lender’s largest global complex, which will also host its headquarters. It will be based in the New Administrative Capital near Cairo. The scope of the contract awarded covers various aspects. These include construction, finishing as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing works. Furthermore, it entails hard and soft landscaping and also full furniture, fixture and equipment supply. Once complete, the project is expected to generate around 8,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and 1,000 jobs during operations. It is expected to be completed within 36 months. The twin-tower AATC complex will feature a comprehensive suite of trade-supporting and knowledge-driven facilities. The project statement noted that sustainability is a key aspect as the facility will be a green, sustainable project.
Outlook on Afreximbank’s African Trade Center in Egypt
Afreximbank’s African Trade Center will include trade and business facilities as well as a knowledge and innovation hub. It will also include a corporate museum, an SME incubation center, a 110-room apartment hotel and a 750-seat conference center. Furthermore, it includes exhibition halls, retail and dining outlets, support facilities, and a 1,200-space parking structure. UAE-based EHAF Consulting Engineers will oversee architectural design and project supervision, according to an Afreximbank statement. The center will occupy a site area of 48,888 square meters, with a total gross built-up area of 156,147 square meters. Of this, 57,298 square meters will be allocated to Afreximbank office space.

The project will incorporate energy-efficient systems, solar power integration, water-saving technologies, and climate-responsive design. “Our collaboration with Afreximbank reflects a shared belief in the power of infrastructure to unlock Africa’s economic potential,” noted Hassan Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Holding. Afreximbank has invested about $41 billion in the Egyptian economy, supporting projects in the energy, telecommunications, construction, and manufacturing sectors. President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding exports, particularly to African markets. Furthermore, they aim to do this in cooperation with Afreximbank, including support for financing major development projects across multiple sectors.
