Houston American Energy Corp. has officially broken ground on its new Cedar Port Renewable Complex in Baytown, Texas, marking a major step in the company’s shift toward renewable and circular energy technologies.
The company unveiled the milestone on Tuesday, October 29, 2025. Phase One includes constructing the Abundia Innovation Center and a standalone Research and Development Facility. The company designed both to support technologies that convert plastics and waste into clean fuels and reusable chemicals.
The project sits in TGS Cedar Port Industrial Park. This vast rail- and barge-served industrial complex in North America directly accesses the Houston Ship Channel. Houston American Energy purchased the 25-acre property earlier this year for about $8.5 million.
Corvus Construction Company will construct Phase One. Powers Brown Architecture will provide architectural support. Dynamic Engineering and BNI Engineers will handle engineering. The team will complete the project in the second quarter of 2026.
Shift in Energy Dynamics in Houston
The Cedar Port project is one component of a larger transformation in the Houston region, with several of the region’s long-time oil and gas companies moving into renewable and waste-to-fuel ventures. Industry onlookers comment that the project could establish the Gulf Coast as a proving ground for cleaner industrial technology.
Houston American Energy, which was formerly focused on oil and gas exploration, has included the project in its diversification into renewable fuels and circular economy ventures. Its future activities at Cedar Port will probably involve a larger facility for recycling that can recycle mixed plastics into fuel.
The company has not published entire project costs for phases but indicated the site will provide room for pilot testing, research partnerships, and eventual commercial-scale operations. Texas hosts some of the nation’s largest and most vital energy ventures, including the $14 billion Port Arthur LNG project on the Gulf Coast.
Local and Environmental Interest
The plant is sure to ruffle feathers in Baytown, which has close ties with the petrochemical industry. Supporters point to possible investment and employment opportunities, while green activists will be watching closely on emissions management and waste disposal when the plant is in operation.
