Houston Selected for New $200M, 4 GW Solar Module Manufacturing Facility

Houston has been selected for a new 4-gigawatt solar module manufacturing facility backed by more than $200 million in investment, with the project expected to create up to 800 jobs and begin commercial operations in the third quarter of 2026.

 

SEG Solar on May 7, 2026 announced plans to establish a new 4-gigawatt solar manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas, expanding the company’s U.S. production footprint as domestic solar manufacturing activity continues to grow.

 

The company said the new plant will add nearly 500,000 square feet of manufacturing space and increase SEG Solar’s total annual U.S. solar module production capacity to about 6 GW. Commercial operations at the facility are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

Total investment

SEG Solar said the project represents an investment of more than $200 million and is expected to create up to 800 jobs.

 

The expansion follows the company’s first 2 GW solar module factory and forms part of its broader localization strategy in the United States. SEG said the move will position the company among the largest fully U.S.-owned solar module manufacturers.

 

“This new facility marks an important milestone for SEG,” said Timothy Johnson, vice president of operations at SEG Solar. “It will further strengthen our U.S. manufacturing capabilities while supporting ongoing technology innovation.”

 

The company said the Houston facility will support future manufacturing technologies, including heterojunction (HJT) solar technology, as market demand evolves.

 

The announcement also comes after SEG Solar previously disclosed plans for a 5 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Indonesia. Where construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2026.

 

Once completed, the company said the combined manufacturing network will support a more integrated solar supply chain covering ingots, wafers and cells amid shifting trade and policy conditions in the solar sector.

The Houston manufacturing expansion aligns with rising project financing activity across the U.S. solar sector, including MN8 Energy’s funded procurement strategy for utility-scale development.
