Infinity Power Breaks Ground on 200 MW Ras Ghareb Wind Farm in Egypt

The Ras Ghareb Wind Project is a planned 200 MW onshore wind power development located in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez. The project is intended to generate renewable electricity for the national grid and support the country’s clean energy targets.

Infinity Power has commenced construction of the project following the signing of an engineering, procurement and construction contract with POWERCHINA Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited.

The EPC agreement was signed during the China-Africa Economic, Trade and Cultural Forum by Infinity Power’s co-founder and CEO Nayer Fouad and HDEC Vice President Liu Jiajin.

The development forms part of Egypt’s broader renewable energy programme and is included within the Energy Pillar of the Nexus Water-Food-Energy initiative led by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

According to the developer, the wind farm is expected to supply electricity to more than 300,000 households and reduce carbon emissions by over 400,000 tonnes per year once operational.

The company indicated that the project aligns with its strategy to reach 10 GW of renewable energy capacity across Africa by 2030 and is intended to contribute to Egypt’s clean energy transition.

Executives from both companies emphasised the project’s importance. With Infinity Power noting its continued expansion in Egypt’s wind sector and HDEC highlighting its role in delivering large-scale clean-energy infrastructure.

Egypt increased its renewable energy capacity to 11.8 GW in 2024. Up from 6.2 GW in 2015, supported by major wind developments in the Gulf of Suez. With several large-scale projects progressing, the country is moving toward its clean-energy targets and preparing to host Africa’s largest wind farm.

Other Projects

Another significant renewable energy taking shape other than the Ras Ghareb wind farm project is the Obelisk solar and battery storage project. The first phase of the Obelisk solar and battery project in Egypt has successfully commenced operations according to Scatec. Scatec is responsible for the 1.1GW Obelisk solar and 100MW/200MWh battery storage project in Egypt. The power project is being implemented in two phases, with the first phase already operational. The first phase entails 561MW of solar capacity. Moreover, it includes 100MW/200MWh battery energy storage.
