Infinity Power has begun construction on the 200-MW Ras Ghareb Wind Project in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez after signing an engineering, procurement and construction contract with POWERCHINA Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited (HDEC).
The EPC agreement was signed at the China-Africa Economic, Trade & Cultural Forum by Infinity Power Co-Founder and CEO Nayer Fouad and HDEC Vice President Liu Jiajin.
The project forms part of Egypt’s renewable energy programme. And sits under the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development–led Energy Pillar of the Nexus Water-Food-Energy (NWFE) initiative.
According to Infinity Power, the wind farm is designed to supply electricity to more than 300,000 homes. And reduce carbon emissions by over 400,000 tonnes annually once operational.
The company said the development advances its plan to reach 10 GW of renewable capacity across Africa by 2030. Infinity Power added that Ras Ghareb will contribute to Egypt’s clean-energy goals and support the country’s transition toward lower-carbon power generation.
Executives from both companies emphasised the project’s importance. With Infinity Power noting its continued expansion in Egypt’s wind sector and HDEC highlighting its role in delivering large-scale clean-energy infrastructure.
Egypt increased its renewable energy capacity to 11.8 GW in 2024. Up from 6.2 GW in 2015, supported by major wind developments in the Gulf of Suez. With several large-scale projects progressing, the country is moving toward its clean-energy targets and preparing to host Africa’s largest wind farm.
