Key improvements are being delivered at Malltraeth Cob, the one-mile-long embankment and bridge crossing the River Cefni. These include the creation of build-outs to improve visibility and prevent conflicts between vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Bird-watching areas, benches, and cycle stands are also being installed to enhance the user experience and support recreational use.
Village Accessibility and Traffic-Calming Measures
Within Newborough village, existing footways are being resurfaced to improve accessibility. Additional safety measures include the installation of 28 speed cushions and a raised table junction, aimed at slowing traffic and creating a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists.
Part of a Wider Green Corridor Vision
Managed by Transport for Wales and funded by the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund, the scheme forms part of the Glasffordd Môn Steering Group’s long-term vision to establish a green active travel corridor across Anglesey. The project supports sustainable transport, healthier travel choices, and stronger links between communities, while also benefiting local landscapes and ecosystems.
Strengthening Community Connections
The new route is intended to improve connectivity between the communities of Malltraeth and Newborough by providing a dedicated, safe, and sustainable walking and cycling link. Beyond supporting everyday journeys, the project is expected to promote active lifestyles, reduce car dependency, and improve access to Anglesey’s natural environment.
