Lenfarne Group’s Texas LNG Brownsville Terminal has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Kiewit. The terminal is located at the Port of Brownsville in South Texas, US.
The lump-sum turnkey contract is considered to be one of the final steps for the Texas LNG project. The project is nearing a final investment decision (FID).
Texas LNG Brownsville is the holding company for the Texas LNG export facility. This facility will have a capacity of four million tonnes per annum (mtpa). This facility will join the Calsasieu Pass 2 project (CP2) in Louisiana in cementing the United States status as a leading natural gas producer globally.
Kiewit Energy Group Responsibilities in the Project
Furthermore, Kiewit, through its subsidiary Kiewit Energy Group, has been tasked with engineering, equipment procurement, module fabrication, construction and commissioning for the entire Texas LNG facility.
Kiewit Energy Group oil, gas and chemical executive vice-president Eric Gutierrez said: “Kiewit is excited to advance our partnership with Glenfarne through Texas LNG. This will allow us to bring our extensive experience and highly skilled workforce to deliver complex, integrated LNG EPC projects as scheduled and on budget.
“We are happy to continue our work with Glenfarne and together build a premier LNG export facility on the US Gulf Coast.”
Once the facility is complete, Kiewit will deliver a fully operational facility to Glenfarne Group.
Timeline
Additionally, the facility expects to start commercial operations in 2028. The Texas LNG project will be among the world’s lowest-emitting LNG export sites by using electric motor drives.

Glenfarne Group CEO and founder Brendan Duval stated: “Within the last 14 months, the Texas LNG project team has been embedded with Kiewit to complete the pre-FID engineering required for the project to kick off execution.
“This process confirmed that Kiewit’s capabilities, as well as their best-in-class execution and implementation expertise on the US Gulf Coast, align with Glenfarne’s vision for Texas LNG.
Together with Kiewit, we will build a world-class LNG facility that will make the Rio Grande Valley region proud and provide high-paying, quality jobs and technical training for the area for decades to come.”
Other Deals Secured by Texas LNG Brownsville
In January this year, Texas LNG Brownsville secured a 20-year deal with RWE Supply & Trading for the supply of 1mtpa of LNG. This equates to nearly 13 cargoes of LNG and 1.4 billion cubic metres per year of natural gas, respectively.
A month before that, Texas LNG finalised a 20-year sales and purchase agreement with Macquarie Energy, a unit of Macquarie Group, for the supply of 500,000 tonnes per annum of LNG.
