Wheeled excavators are a little slack when it comes to digging, as compared to their tracked cousins. But with a few enhancements and variety of jobs they can perform wonders in a construction site. The maneuverability of wheeled excavators in tight cramped spaces is unmatched.

Wheeled excavators are more popular in the European construction industry. The trend is more or less based on the kind of activities these excavators are engaged in. A wheeled excavator is ideally suited for urban environments whereas tracked ones are ideal for digging and cleaning raw land. A tracked excavator would more or less destroy the hard surfaces such as roads, building slabs, etc.

Wheeled Excavators setting New Standards

Big names like Volvo, Doosan have introduced wheeled excavators in their stable. The advantage of these excavators is that the wheels and brakes are durable, cost effective and easy to replace, thereby reducing the operational cost and increasing the uptime.

These excavators don’t need a truck or a trailer to haul them as they can be wheeled to the jobsite. These excavators are highly efficient for multitasking and help in improving productivity.

Talking about wheeled excavators, it’s hard not to mention Doosan’s Tier-4 compliant excavators i.e. the DX140-W5 and DX190-W5. These excavators boast about improved fuel efficiency, thanks to Smart Power Control selectable engine mode. The SPC has two systems i.e. Variable Speed Control and Pump Torque control, which work in tandem to achieve unmatched efficiency.

Enhancements and Improvements

These two excavators come with a host of other enhancements without compromising the trust predecessors had to offer. These include an ergonomic joystick, strategically placed cameras, foot pedals and consoles, relocated emergency stop and an alternator upgrade.

Another improvement is that these excavators comply with the Tier 4 emission standards. This is achieved with high-end engine technology and a variety of after treatment systems. The Telematics system also enables remote monitoring of the excavator which help in proactive maintenance.
