Meta has commenced construction on a new data center facility in Lebanon, Indiana, marking a significant infrastructure investment. The scope on the project entails a 1GW data center capacity that supports both A.I workloads and core products. Furthermore, the project is expected to hold an immense significance to the region. For instance, it is expected to create over 4,000 construction jobs and about 300 operational positions.
It will also facilitate additional community support through workforce development programs and grants. Meta plans to invest over $10 billion in the site and surrounding community. These includes funding for local water resources and road infrastructure. The company also commits to using 100% renewable energy and aims for LEED Gold certification for the facility.
Additionally, Meta will restore all water used at the site to local watersheds and partner with local farmers on irrigation projects. The data center is part of Meta’s broader efforts to expand infrastructure while engaging with community and environmental initiatives.
Outlook on the Meta Data Center in Indiana
Meta has noted that its data center in Indiana is “a state-of-the-art data center in Lebanon, Indiana _ one of our largest infrastructure investments to date.” This campus marks Meta’s second major tech infrastructure project in Indiana, joining its $800 million, 700,000-square-foot data center in Jeffersonville that is nearing completion. Indiana Governor Mike Braun joined Meta executives in the groundbreaking initiative, noting Indiana’s commitment to support the project.
“Indiana has the business-first environment and the central location needed to support the global infrastructure of tomorrow’s economy,” said Gov. Braun. “Meta’s significant investment in Indiana is a testament to our workforce and to our communities that will power its growth and its future here in Lebanon.” “We are proud to welcome Meta to Lebanon’s LEAP Research and Innovation District. By choosing Lebanon, Meta is not only investing in our community but is also strengthening the critical digital infrastructure that powers the modern world,” said Lebanon Mayor Matt Gentry.
