Meta Signs Long-Term PPA with Origis Energy for Greyhound A Solar Project in West Texas

Meta has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Origis Energy for the Greyhound A Solar project in West Odessa, Texas, a 303 MWdc (240 MWac) facility expected to start operations by mid-2026.

The pact is a part of an energy hub in West Texas that already houses close to 1 GW of solar power that is fully subscribed. This capacity will be online throughout 2026. Currently, 500 MW of the capacity is operational.

The signing of this contract is part of Meta’s continued effort to match 100% of its electricity consumption with clean energy to support Meta’s growing data centers. “We are delighted to collaborate with Origis Energy to bring yet another 240MWac of solar energy to the local energy grid,” said Meta’s Director of Global Energy, Urvi Parekh.

For Origis Energy, the deal solidifies its presence as one of the key renewable energy developers in the United States. “This collaboration is a statement of Meta’s leadership and their unprecedented investment in the United States,” said Vikas Anand, Origis Energy’s CEO.

Additional solar and battery energy storage system

Aside from the Greyhound A project, Origis is developing an additional 1 GW solar and battery energy storage system, which will form a 2 GW+ energy complex in West Texas, and is scheduled to be completed by 2029.

Taken together, the above initiatives amount to around $2.5 billion in infrastructure spending in Ector County and surrounding areas.

This is representative of the growing integration between renewable energy and technology operations in the state of Texas, as solar and energy storage projects are becoming more and more tied to high-demand facilities such as data centers.

West Texas continues to attract large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, driven by abundant land, strong renewable resources, and access to the ERCOT grid. Meta’s Greyhound A Solar project in West Odessa will supply 303 MWdc (240 MWac) of clean energy, supporting growing data center operations in the region. The development complements initiatives like Galaxy Digital’s Helios AI Data Center, which recently received ERCOT approval for an additional 830 MW of power, highlighting the area’s role as a hub for high-capacity, AI-ready infrastructure powered by renewable energy.
