Construction of the 101 MW Juliet Solar farm in rural Wood County, Ohio, has been set to begin in two years following approval. Lightsource BP will construct the project on 670 acres of privately held property in Weston, Weston Township, and Milton Township, with a fence erected around the perimeter. Beginning in mid-2023, around 240,000 solar panels will be deployed. Weston, which has 1,455 people according to the 2020 Census, is located 10 miles west of Bowling Green. To the south, Milton Township borders Weston Township. According to the project website, BP anticipates that Juliet Solar would earn US$890,000 in local taxes, the majority of which will benefit Otsego Local Schools. Tax money is also received by the two townships and the community of Weston.

According to BP, Juliet Solar is estimated to generate 100 to 150 construction jobs during peak construction. Although the concept has never been formally presented to village board members, Weston Mayor Jeremy Schroeder said he has spoken in support of it and has only heard a few locals object. “You shouldn’t be turning down any economic growth in the region, especially in a location like Weston where there isn’t much in the first place,” Mr. Schroeder said. According to him, the majority of the funds would be utilized to improve the village’s downtown.

“The construction timeline included in the application was an estimate based on the knowledge we had at the time. We have since received fresh information, which has forced the project to revise its projected construction start date to mid-2023 “Cliff Scher, senior director of development at Lightsource BP, stated. BP owns the Juliet Solar Project, and Lightsource BP has a 50-50 partnership with the London-based BP, a multinational giant best known for producing and selling petroleum throughout the world but currently in the midst of a significant push toward renewables.
