Belmont University recently opened its newly completed Fisher Center Belmont for the Performing Arts facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony, where it unveiled the four story building, which was modeled after traditional European opera houses. The Fisher center was named after the retired Belmont President Dr. Bob Fisher and his wife Judy, and their sculptures are positioned at the entrance of the building, in honor of their contributions to Belmont University.

The new $180 million Fisher Center is a 150,000 square foot facility consisting of a 1,700-seat capacity opera house, two multipurpose ballrooms, rehearsal space, dressing rooms, and a space for technical facilities in the background. Other notable designs of the building, which are based on hidden details of the Fisher’s legacy include the bees lining the classic stone columns on the facade and in the grand lobby; and also the twinkling LED stars on the inside of the high domed ceiling, which depict the constellations visible in the night sky.

The entire Fisher Center facility has also been designed with acoustic soundproofing to provide the audience with an optimal listening experience. This multi-purpose facility is bringing another world class venue to Music City in Tennessee, and it will be used in hosting major concerts, plays, operas, dance, musical theatre and other performances, while also serving as a unique learning and performing environment for the arts students of Belmont University. Some events already scheduled to take place at the Fisher Center include the “Christmas at Belmont” concert on December 1, featuring over 800 student musicians and vocalists; the Nashville Opera collaboration on Richard Wagner’s epic “Das Rheingold” in May 2022; and the Nashville Ballet residency in June 2022.

The Belmont President, Dr. Bob Fisher was pleased with the new Fisher Center and also spoke about its great potential.. Fisher said, “When we began construction two-and-a-half years ago, I was intent on fulfilling the charge that I had been given by Belmont Board Chair Marty Dickens to build a facility that would be the finest performing arts center on any college campus in the world because that’s what our students deserve.”
