The third package of the Kuwait international airport renovation and upgrade project in Farwaniya Governorate is 76% complete.
This was revealed by Saad Al Otaibi, the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation of Kuwait. The civil aviation authority of Kuwait oversees aviation operations in the country including air transport, airports, and pilots.
The third package of the Kuwait international airport renovation and upgrade project has four components.

The first component of the Kuwait international airport renovation and upgrade project’s third package includes the construction of a brand-new control tower. The tower will reportedly be equipped with the most recent navigation systems.

The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation said that 88% of the construction of the new observation tower has been completed. This, he explained, is inclusive of the installation of state-of-art navigation equipment.Â
The second component of the package, on the other hand, includes the construction of a new runway. The third component includes the reconstruction as well as modernization and development of the eastern runway.Â
Lastly, the fourth component is linked to the provision of infrastructure services for the southern region of the airport. In regard to the reconstruction and restoration of the eastern runway and services infrastructure in the facility’s southern section, Al Otaibi said that work is being expedited.
Plans underway to appoint Kuwait international airport operator
Al Otaibi further revealed that plans are afoot to appoint an international operator for the airport. The operator according to him will upgrade the air aviation and train national cadres to run the facility.
He said, “Tenders will be floated for selecting an international investor to operate the T2 terminal which was inaugurated back in 2018. The tenders will also be designed to draw investors for managing and operating cargo and the terminal for private aircraft,” concluded the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation of Kuwait.
